Celebrate Summer Solstice with Solar Battery Backup

It’s that time of year again. Tomorrow is the Summer Solstice, aka the first day of summer, the longest day of the year, and the day of the year with more sunlight than any other in the Northern Hemisphere. For most of us in the U.S., we will experience somewhere around 15 hours or so of daylight tomorrow.

But, did you know, more energy from the sun will reach the surface of the Earth in just one of those hours than the entire population uses in a year1? This means the opportunities to utilize solar energy as a renewable source of power are completely untapped. And using solar systems in concert with stationary battery power should be considered a reliable and sustainable long-term emergency power solution.

Solar Battery Backup System

While storing solar energy in a battery is an effective backup power source in the case of an outage, it also allows homeowners and business owners to use energy stored during the day at night, lessening their reliance on grid-based power. A grid-tied solar system with battery backup not only serves as a reliable, redundant power supply, but it can also greatly reduce energy costs over time.

Off-Grid Solar Power

From living in remote areas to conducting military operations in far-away lands, solar power also serves as a primary power solution for many off-grid applications. Using often mobile, easy-to-install solar panels provides sufficient energy harvesting during daylight times and battery storage and management to access electricity as needed.

Inverters & Rectifiers for Remote Telecom

Another useful application for a solar battery backup system is in remote telecommunications. Often these cellular and other telecom service towers are placed in remote locations where power supplies are both scarce and unreliable, requiring a durable and dependable redundant power solution.

Inverters – play a vital role in any effective solar-powered system by both converting the DC energy from solar panels to power AC equipment and charging and converting DC battery systems to AC power.

Rectifiers – modular, hot-swappable rectifiers support redundancy and offer features such as voltage and current display – a basic shelf supports external battery backup with battery low-voltage disconnect (LVD) protection.

Both inverters and rectifiers can also be monitored remotely, reducing the number of costly site visits.

Soak Up the Sun

As of tomorrow, summer is officially here, along with the abundance of sunlight we have been waiting for. So, take advantage of it; consider a solar battery backup power solution (if you haven’t already) and get outside and enjoy. But don’t forget your sunscreen.
