Celebrating a Visionary Whose Legacy Transformed the DC Power and Battery Industry

Allen Byrne, Technical Advisor, Eagle Eye University

Dedicating his life’s work to the battery backed power industry, Allen Byrne has become a widely recognized and distinguished expert in the stationary battery industry. A strong proponent of the enduring reliability and vast range of benefits of lead acid batteries, Allen has long supporting the concept that truly “lead is not dead.”

As a senior member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Allen spent years as a contributor on the Power and Energy Society’s Stationary Battery Committee (PES SBC). He also served as a member of the IEEE Standards Association, where he vice-chaired two IEEE battery standards.

As one of the founders of Battcon, the International Stationary Battery Conference, Allen served as the chair of this annual event for 16 years. He was deservedly honored in 2011 by being inducted into the Battcon Battery Hall-of-Fame.

Allen has also been a frequent contributor to numerous industry publications, serving as editor for Power Quality Assurance Magazine. He has been a keynote speaker at numerous power system related conferences and has published over 50 technical papers. He is the original author of the Power Distribution Chapter of BCSI’s Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual and the host of Eagle Eye Power Solution’s podcast “DC Power Hour.”

Eagle Eye Power Solutions was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Allen for the last decade. Providing instant credibility to the organization, Allen made himself readily available as an invaluable technical resource, developing papers, performing webinars, hosting podcasts, and contributing as a technical advisor across every segment of the business.

Depending upon the point in their career path, I would want anyone that I mentored to know more than I did when I was in their shoes. I want them to be so competent that they can rise in the ranks and be a credit to their employer. I hope that I have made their job easier and more rewarding.
