The Doghouse BC-2500 is a compact, modular DC battery charger designed for substations, switchgear, and other industrial applications where space, reliability, and continuous operation are critical.
What makes the Doghouse BC-2500 different from a conventional battery charger?
The Doghouse BC-2500 uses multiple independently operating intelligent Power Modules, or iPMs, instead of relying on a single power-conversion component. The modules share the connected load, helping eliminate single points of failure and maintain DC output if a module becomes unavailable.
How does the Doghouse BC-2500 provide system redundancy?
Multiple iPMs operate in parallel and distribute the load across the charger. The system can be configured with N+1 or N+2 redundancy so the remaining modules continue charging if one or more modules are taken offline.
Can an iPM be replaced without shutting down the charger?
Yes. The iPMs are hot-swappable and can be removed by loosening two screws. A module can be replaced while the remaining modules continue supporting the battery and connected DC load.

What mounting options are available?
The Doghouse BC-2500 can be installed on a wall, shelf, floor, or EIA 19-inch rack. Rack installations can be configured for front or rear mounting.
What AC power supply does the charger require?
The charger accepts single-phase AC input with a rated range of 100–240 VAC and an operating range of 90–264 VAC. It supports rated frequencies from 50–200 Hz and operating frequencies from 45–205 Hz. Operation below 100 VAC may reduce the charger’s available output power.
Will the controls continue operating during an AC power failure?
Yes. The User Interface Module can be powered by either AC or DC. When AC power is lost, the connected battery can continue powering the user interface, monitoring functions, and alarms.
Can the Doghouse BC-2500 power a DC load without a battery?
Yes. The battery eliminator capability is included as a standard feature. The charger’s low-output ripple allows it to operate as a filtered DC power supply for connected DC loads.
How is the Doghouse BC-2500 cooled?
The charger uses natural convection cooling and does not require cooling fans. This removes fan-related failure points and helps support dependable operation in demanding industrial environments.
What is the operating temperature range?
The Doghouse BC-2500 operates from -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F). The 48 VDC and 130 VDC configurations operate in reduced-power mode when temperatures exceed 50°C.

The charger is rated for environments with 0–95% non-condensing humidity. Its circuit boards are conformal coated to provide added protection against moisture.

Does the charger compensate for battery temperature?
Yes. Battery temperature compensation with controlled limits is available to adjust charger operation based on battery temperature. Ten-foot and 30-foot battery temperature sensors are available through the product configuration options.
Can the charger be monitored locally?
Yes. A digital amp and volt meter is included as standard. The charger also includes an internal web server and can be connected directly to a laptop for configuration or monitoring.
What breaker options are available?
The charger can be configured with standard 10 kAIC magnetic breakers or optional high-interrupt 22 kAIC magnetic breakers.
Is ground fault detection available?
Yes. The charger can be configured with a ground fault detection switch. Configurations are available with no GFD switch or with a GFD switch that is turned off by default.
Does the charger support remote DC voltage sensing?
Yes. Remote DC voltage-sensing wiring is available in 10-foot and 30-foot lengths. Remote sensing allows the charger to account for voltage at the connected battery rather than relying only on voltage measured at the charger output.
