The charger is designed to provide temporary, reliable DC power during emergency outages or when an installed stationary battery charger is unavailable. Its portable case allows it to be transported and deployed where it is needed.
What output configurations are available?
The Emergency Battery Charger is available in three output configurations:
- 24 VDC at 40 A
- 48 VDC at 40 A
- 130 VDC at 16 A
Each model includes four intelligent power modules as standard.
What is included with the Emergency Battery Charger?
Each charger includes four intelligent power modules, a robust travel case, and a DC output cable with proprietary strain relief. Additional iPMs can also be ordered.
How portable is the Emergency Battery Charger?
The complete system weighs less than 80 pounds and is housed in a protective case with a handle and wheels. It can be hauled or shipped without requiring a dedicated DOT trailer.
What AC input does the charger require?
The charger uses automatic universal single-phase AC input. It has a rated input range of 100–240 VAC and an operating range of 90–264 VAC, allowing it to operate from commonly available AC power sources.
How does the modular design improve reliability?
The charger uses independently operating intelligent power modules that share the connected load. If one module becomes unavailable, the remaining modules can continue supplying DC output, reducing the risk of a complete charger shutdown.
Can additional power modules be added?
Yes. Four iPMs are included as standard, and additional modules can be ordered based on the system configuration and redundancy requirements.
Can the charger support a DC load without a connected battery?
Yes. A battery eliminator function is included as standard. The charger’s low-output ripple allows it to operate as a filtered DC power supply while supporting connected DC loads.
What happens to the charger controls if AC power is lost?
The User Interface Module can be powered from either AC or DC. This allows the controls, monitoring, and alarm functions to remain operational from the connected battery when AC power is unavailable.
How is the Emergency Battery Charger cooled?
The charger uses natural convection cooling rather than fans. This eliminates fan-related failure points and supports reliable operation across a wide temperature range.
What is the operating temperature range?
The Emergency Battery Charger is designed to operate from -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F). The 48 VDC and 130 VDC configurations operate in reduced-power mode above 50°C.
How efficient is the charger?
At full load, the charger provides greater than 91% efficiency with a 120 VAC input and greater than 93% efficiency with a 240 VAC input.
What electrical protections are included?
The charger includes protection against current limit conditions, short circuits, reverse polarity, surges, voltage transients, inrush current, undervoltage, and overvoltage.
Does the charger include voltage and current displays?
Yes. A digital amp and volt meter is included as a standard feature for viewing charger output and system performance.
Does the Emergency Battery Charger meet industry standards?
The charger meets IEEE Std 2405-2022 and is UL, CSA, and CEC certified. Its circuit boards are also conformal coated to provide additional protection against moisture.
